Dampier End of Life AC Upgrade – Phase 1

Client – Rio Tinto

Location – Dampier Ports + 7 Mile Rail Facility

Completion date – September 2023

As the result of a site wide audit of Rio Tinto’s HVAC assets at the Port of Dampier, multiple locations were deemed to have Air Conditioning assets that had reached end of life condition. Rapid Air were engaged by Rio Tinto to complete the upgrade works specified in phase 1 to locations at Dampier ports (Parker Point) and the 7 Mile Rail Facility.

Challenges overcome during Project

  • Due to the age of the existing unit, the replacement packaged unit to be installed at the 7 mile Signals building would have a significantly different footprint. Rapid Air was able to overcome this by designing, supplying and installing new external ductwork that would seamlessly connect into the existing internal ductwork as well as the new design of the Packaged AC to be installed.

  • Western Stockyard 1 substation had to remain an operational asset for the duration of the project works due to its critical nature in the production line. Whilst the works were completed a viable option was needed to keep the substation cool enough to operate. Rapid Air supplied and installed temporary cooling to the building to maintain the temperature at a level that would allow the VSD’s and switchgear within the substation to operate safely within their parameters.
